Live sessions

Interactive whiteboard, voice, and shared resources during lessons — the same tutor, the same calm approach, with proper maths tools built in.

Guided learning programme

Enrolled students follow an ordered path of STBs and Keystones packs — each step unlocks when they reach the mastery threshold. Progress syncs to the server on any device.

Independent practice between lessons

Single-Topic Booklets for topics that need another go — self-marking, instant feedback, and helpful hints when an answer needs another try.

Markbook & curriculum

Every question is tracked and mapped to national curriculum small steps so Jon can see exactly where each learner is strong — and where to go next.

Parent portal

Parents can view session feedback, weekly progress, downloadable PDF reports, and recommended practice — and send scheduling requests when life gets busy.

Parent portal

Structured practice, not just homework links

Maths Tutoring Rocks is built for tuition that continues between sessions. Students sign in at mathstutoring.rocks/learn/ to work through Jon’s curated programme — with instant marking, helpful hints, and a dashboard that shows exactly what to do next.

  • Your programme — ordered steps that unlock as mastery builds (typically 80%).
  • STB booklets — examiner-written Single-Topic Booklets for GCSE topics that need another go.
  • Daily Keystones — retrieval practice packs for students on the Keystones track.
  • Your progress — a personal markbook view so learners (and parents) can see improvement.

This is tutor-led independent learning for current tutees — not a generic worksheet site. Programmes are assigned individually after lessons, when Jon can see what each learner needs next.

About Jon

Qualified teacher (BEd Hons, DipHE Maths Education), Edexcel examiner, and private tutor — supporting young people who want maths to feel clearer and more doable.

I’m Jon. I work with students who are catching up, keeping pace with school, or pushing toward exams — always with an emphasis on understanding, not just procedure. I teach towards all the major UK exam boards and mark GCSE papers for Edexcel, so I know what examiners are looking for. You get direct explanations, sensible practice, and room to ask questions without pressure.

Tuition is online or at my home studio in Wednesbury (WS10). I agree with you what success looks like for your learner, then build sessions around that — whether that is confidence, grades, or simply worrying less about the next test.

If maths is not going the way you hoped, get in touch using the form below or WhatsApp. I offer a free online taster session so you can meet me, try the platform, and see if I’m a good fit for your family — with no obligation to continue.

GCSE Exam Sprint

A focused 2–6 week intensive in the run-up to exams (typically January–May): more frequent sessions, past-paper practice, and mock feedback. Availability is limited — Jon will confirm slots and fees when you enquire.

I would highly recommend Jon, he has given my 10 year old son so much more confidence. He was really struggling at school and during lockdown with maths, but with Jon’s help he’s made great progress and really enjoys his lessons!

My daughter has always struggled with maths and had little or no confidence. Jon’s alternative teaching approach and the ability to build confidence is astounding. He is flexible, approachable and always on hand to help out in between sessions. The best thing we ever did.

I cannot recommend Jon enough. He is professional, polite and has the biggest passion for maths that I have ever known. He approaches his sessions with enthusiasm but also leaves your child feeling that they can achieve greatness. My child went from achieving a 4 in their GCSEs to coming out with a final grade of a 6! This was all down to Jon and his commitment to helping my child achieve the best and truly caring for their wellbeing and education.

My boys love their tutorials with Jon. He explains concepts they have been struggling with at school in a clear and fun way and they quickly understand. If they are up to date, Jon plans lessons on the areas they will be studying next to give them a head start. He has always been flexible and has tried to swap times when the boys have struggled between tutorials. Just as important is that he is an incredibly nice man, who clearly loves teaching and the boys enjoy their lessons with him.

Our daughter was struggling with maths when we made the worthwhile decision to go to Jon for help. His approach to teaching is fun and engaging and after just a few sessions, managed to change our daughter’s way of thinking towards the subject, so much so she was looking forward to the test paper she had coming up! Jon often goes above and beyond and is always just a call away, any time, to iron out any issues or worries she may have. In short the man is worth his weight in gold.

Jon is a great tutor and I’m so glad we found him. Ben always struggled with maths but with Jon’s patience and ability to break things down for him, he now has the confidence to believe he can pass his GCSE. We have seen a difference in his grades and I’m sure a large part of this is down to Jon. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

My son went to Jon for a good year while he was preparing for his GCSEs. Jon made him feel welcome and reassured him to just try his best. Kept in regular contact with me and gave me updates. I would highly recommend Jon for that additional support.

My daughter has always struggled with Maths and her school were doing very little to help with this. She was very worried about failing her GCSE as she just didn’t get it when it came to Maths. Jon helped to build her confidence during her weekly online session and he was flexible when we had to change a couple of days. She recently got her results, and passed! This was definitely due to Jon’s support and I know he was as pleased as we were with her result. Thanks Jon!

Jon is a lovely man, helped my daughters confidence immensely with her maths, we tried a few tutors of which my daughter refused to go back. Jon had a genuine interest in her learning and would do a different topic each week that she struggled on. My daughter looked forward to Jon’s lessons more than the school ones, and said she wished he was her actual teacher! He is very patient and flexible and a real confidence booster.

Jon is fantastic! My daughter had online lessons from Jon when studying for her maths GCSE. He not only helped her get a fab grade he grew her confidence. Now she misses her lessons with Jon. I would definitely recommend.

My daughter Olivia has been having tuition with Mr Glover for the past few years & she really enjoys his lesson. He has helped her so much with understanding maths & boosting her confidence. He supported her during the year 6 sats & into secondary school. We are very grateful for his tuition, he is fab!

Frequently asked questions

What ages and subjects do you teach?

Maths from KS2 through to KS4 (including GCSE), plus statistics. Online anywhere in the UK, or face-to-face at my home studio in Wednesbury (WS10).

How much does tuition cost?

£130 per month is the recommended option for regular ongoing tuition. £35 per hour for ad-hoc or occasional sessions. A free online taster session is available before you commit.

How do current tutees sign in?

Students use the student portal with the personal link Jon sends when you start tuition. Parents can create an account at parent.mathstutoring.rocks to view feedback and progress. Legacy Moodle access remains at /online/ during the transition.

What is the free online taster session?

A short live session online so you and your child can meet Jon, try the platform, and see whether the teaching style feels right — with no obligation to book paid tuition afterwards.

Online or face-to-face?

Both. Many families choose online for flexibility; others prefer sessions at my home studio in Wednesbury. You and I agree what works when we set up tuition.

Which exam boards do you cover?

All major UK boards — AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, and others. Jon is a current Edexcel examiner, so he knows what examiners expect at GCSE.

Why is the Trustpilot score not 5/5?

Every review on my Trustpilot listing is five stars — all 19 of them. The headline score of 4.6 is Trustpilot’s TrustScore, which is not a simple average of those stars.

Trustpilot’s own formula gives more weight to newer reviews, takes account of how regularly reviews arrive, and uses a Bayesian average — for smaller businesses they effectively blend in a handful of neutral 3.5-star reviews so new profiles cannot jump straight to 5.0. With 19 reviews, that baseline still pulls the score below a straight five.

As more reviews come in over time, the score moves closer to the real average. Trustpilot explain the calculation on their help site if you want the full detail.
